[Recipe] Sate Padang

Sate Padang is a Padang style Satay, from west Sumatra province. This Padang style satay is quite famous in Indonesia. It tastes really hot, and is served with 'ketupat'. The satay is usually consist of beef meat, tongue, and sometimes some beef intestines. But since i don't quite like the tongue and intestines, i make the satay of only the meat.

For 1kg of meat
2 thumb size galangal
2 thumb size ginger
3 thumb size turmeric
6 red chili (ground to become paste)
8 shallots
4 garlics
2tsp ground corriander
1/4tsp cummin seed
1-2tsp white pepper
1tsp salt
1 turmeric leaf
6 lime leaf
1 lemon grass
Rice flour
Water
Cooking oil
50 bamboo skewers
Fried shallots

Instruction
  1. Ground galangar, ginger, turmeric, chili, shallots, garlics, corriander, cummin seed, salt and pepper to become the spice paste.
  2. Prepare the meat, cut into cubes of size about 1.5x1.5x1.5cm. Pour some water to cover all the meat in a pan, bring to boil. Remove the dark-coloured froth (foam, which is actually the blood contained in the meat).
  3. Drain the meat from its broth. Keep the broth.
  4. Preheat about 3tbs of cooking oil in a fry pan. Stir fry the spice paste. Add in the turmeric leaf, lime leaves, and lemon grass. Wait until fragrant.
  5. Add in the half-cooked meat cubes, continue to stir fry for about 15 minutes.
  6. Pour the broth back into the fry pan. Continue to cook until the meat is tender.
  7. Drain the meat, keep the spiced broth. Skew every 3-4 cubes of meat into the bamboo skewer. Grill.
  8. Bring the spiced broth to boil. Mix about 2tbs of rice flour with 100ml water. Add it into the spiced broth, continue to stir it until the broth become thick and become a sauce.
  9. Served the satay with 'ketupat', spread some fried shallots onto the serving.

About toilet seat

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingI heard or read somewhere about how a toilet seat can cause problem between married couple. Many consider that this is such a common problem that when you gather a group of wives they will likely have the same opinion upon this matter. And I'm sure that you also have heard about this, or even experienced it first hand.

Most women usually complain about how their spouses not putting the toilet seat down after using it. I'm not sure what they are complaining about. Actually i also experienced this problem in the first couple of months of my being a wife. But, I wasn't sure either why i complain about it. In the end i thought that maybe i'm just too lazy to put the toilet seat down myself before i use it. After all, i never put it back up after using it and my hubby never complains about it. So, why should i complain about him not putting the seat back down? Right?

The dead watch

'Dry jokes' between me and my hubby...

Me: Honey, my watch's dead. I think it's the battery.
Honey: What? How come? It's only a year or so....
Me: Yeah, it is... i don't know why. Check your watch, is it still working?
Honey: Mine's still working.
Me: Well, maybe in a short time your watch will be dead too... I think mine stops first because i set the time a few minutes earlier than yours.
Honey: ....????!!!!

p.s: why do you keep saying the watch is dead? It cannot be dead, it's never alive!

[no title]

Actually i wanted to make this blog to be written in english. But, geez, i find it soooo hard to write recipes in english. First of all, i'm not familiar with the terms used in cooking stuff. I have to read a lot of recipe in english to be able to do this. *sigh*

There is a project that has been put on hold... to create my own spices glossary, complete with their pictures. As i am indonesian, i only know a name of a spice in Indonesian. Sometimes i dont know what to call a certain spice in English. So when i go to the grocery store, i'm counting on the picture on the package. And from there i learn the spice's name in English. I can go to the wet market and just ask for the spice i need to the seller. There are lots of seller in the wet market who understand Malay. That's the case if the indonesian word for the spices is the same as the Malay word. But, if it's not... heehee... i will just take my time and scan the whole stall looking for the thing i want.
Well, the glossary i want to create is not only for spices, but also for fish names, and beef meat part.

Hopefully i can finish this project before my sister get married. So when she ask me about any of this thing, i will just refer her to this blog. *lazy me... :P *

Cara membuat
Kuah

  2. Setelah empuk lepaskan daging-daging yang menempel pada tulang supaya mudah dimakan, kembalikan dalam rebusan, tambahkan garam sedikit saja.
  3. Didihkan terus dengan api kecil sampai kaldunya agak pekat.
  4. Bila perlu tambahkan air yang sudah panas.
  5. Bila perlu boleh tambahkan kaldu daging stok (beef stock) secukupnya.
Pangsit (goreng dan kukus)
  1. Tetesi daging ikan dengan air jeruk nipis, diamkan kira-kira 15 menit, cuci, tiriskan.
  2. Kuliti ikan dan sisir dagingnya sampai bersih dari tulangnya. Sisihkan (kulitnya tidak dipakai)
  3. Siapkan blender atau food processor. Masukkan bawang merah, bawang putih, telur, garam, merica, lalu blender halus.
  4. Masukkan daging ikan tenggiri kedalam processor sedikit demi sedikit, lalu blender halus sampai mengental. Jika perlu tambahkan air es sedikit untuk mempermudah proses (jika perlu saja).
  9. Untuk pangsit kukus: ambil adonan ikan tenggiri kira-kira 1sdm, bentuk bulat, letakkan diatas kulit wanton. Angkat sisi-sisi kulit wanton hingga menampung adonan ikan ditengah-tengahnya (seperti membuat siomay). Tata dalam kukusan, dan kukus kira-kira 20-30 menit.
Sambal cengek

Selamat mencoba...

I was sick

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingFor the last three days I had a cold, and my head felt so heavy like a tons of stones had been placed on it. It started on the last saturday. I felt a bit of headache and had a running nose. At night, it got worse. I couldn't do anything and only sleep, and sleep. The next morning, I heard my husband washing the dishes that i left in the sink since the night before, and then he woke me up just to say that he was going to buy some bread at the minimart downstairs. We were out of bread for breakfast. About 10 minutes later he came back with a loaf of bread and a pack of instant cream of chicken soup for me. He prepare his own breakfast and cook the soup for me. How sweet... ^_^

The next day, Monday, I felt a little better. But the headache was still there. So i couldn't prepare my husbands lunch and deliver it to his office as usual. He had to have his lunch at the student cafetaria. And this has been going on for four days now.

But thank God, i'm feeling better now. Hopefully by tomorrow i can prepare his meals again, as usual.

A little feast for our anniversary celebration

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingWe had a little feast with some friends for celebrating our anniversary. Not only the anniversary, but my husband's birthday was also around the anniversary day. So we actuallly had two celebrations. I cooked gulai ikan and lalap daun singkong complete with sambal goreng. There were about sixteen friends at the time. All of my cooking are finished. I'm so happy. The feast was a success considering that it was my first time of preparing meals for quite a lot of people. Well, at least we had shared our joy with some friends.

Happy birthday, honey... may Allah SWT bless your life and give you success in all coming years.
Happy anniversary to us... may Allah SWT bless our love and life for us to form a sakinah mawadah warohmah family.
Ameen.
